Tomioka-Silk-Mill

After the Meiji Restoration, the Japanese government established the Tomioka Silk Mill, a government-run model factory equipped with Western-style reeling machines, to improve the quality and productivity of raw silk, a major export item. The brick factory with wooden frames, which retains its appearance at the time, was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2014.
