At the temple, there is a mountain of good luck Daruma dolls that have been dedicated. About 240 years ago, during a great famine, the monk Tōryū of Shōrin-ji Temple had farmers make Daruma dolls and sell them to help them overcome their poverty. It is famous as a good luck charm for overcoming adversity.
