Tago no Kohi

The Tago Monument is a stone monument erected to commemorate the establishment of Tago County as the 14th county of Kozuke Province in the 4th year of Wado (711). An 80-character inscription is engraved in regular script. The Tago Monument, along with the Yamano-ue Monument and the Kanai-zawa Monument in Gunma prefecture, is one of the oldest stone monuments in our country, the ‘Ueno Three Monuments’. It has been designated as a special historic site by the Japanese government.
